About Julie Mace Photography

hmmm... what to say about me? Well I finally uploaded a photo of myself. My poor husband had to take about 400 snapshots. I responded with a humpf and a \\\"Do I seriously look like that?\\\" (Staring blankly at him looking for an answer). His response was \\\"ummm I don\\\'t know what to say to that\\\" Conclusion: Photography is a 2 dimensional art. With every frame, I have a vision of how I want the final image to look like so I may take many snapshots until I get the desired effect. I play around with angles and use creative lighting techniques to do this.

Seeing the Light- The Art of Pro-Photography

March 4th, 2011

I have been learning my craft of digital photography for 3 years.  I actually received my first lesson on photography 16 years ago- before the digital era and before I realized it would become the basis for everything I would learn about photography in the years to come.

I have always had a gift for the arts.  It started very young – I would sit and draw for hours.  My parents enrolled me in private Fine Art oil painting lessons at the age of 13.  My teacher has passed away since but he taught me how to see the light, and it changed my world.

Our first meeting began with a presentation of my pencil renderings.  These renderings lacked depth completely.  They had no “feeling”  They were more cartoons than anything.

“Where is your light?” What mood are you trying to convey with these images.  Where is your light source coming from and where would your shadows fall depending on that light direction”

Without light- you don’t have an image, in fact without light nothing would exist.

When you become a professional photographer, it is not about the camera you use, the camera is a tool used to harness the light.  The more you are able to understand the science of light- the better you are able to create powerful images.

Norm’s teachings along with studying Grade 13 Art History “Monet’s Haystacks at Giverny”  (he painted the same subject over and over under different light conditions, and the mood changed dramatically with each painting) are the moments in my life that have lead me to be where I am today.  I am still learning.  The more I learn -the more I realize I have so much to learn. I couldn’t imagine learning enough.

Portraits – Celebrate being you!

March 2nd, 2011

Spring is almost here!  My brain has been going bananas over the winter.  I have been thinking of so many great ideas for outdoor portraiture.  As women we go to the salon and spend a small fortune to get our hair done, we purchase a brand new outfit, a bag, shoes.  All of these are fabulous ways to feel good and so is having a creative portrait session done to reflect on for years to come.

This is not just for women either.  Everyone deserves to feel great about themselves including men, highschool seniors etc.

Belleville Newborn Photographer

February 15th, 2011

I recently moved to Belleville area and set up shop here.  I established my photography business in the GTA 3 years ago; and it took off really quickly.  I enjoy all types of portraiture including outdoor, on-location and in-studio.  I have been doing quite a lot of maternity and newborn photography in the past year.  The miracle of new life fascinates me and it is always exciting to see a new blooming belly and to follow up with the newborn session and meet the little one that was in that belly.
